LAKSHMI

Lakshmi - Invoking the Goddess Oracle and Action

Lakshmi is the Hindu Goddess of good luck, good fortune, success and happiness. Lakshmi is the consort of Vishnu, one of the principle Hindu deities. The name Lakshmi means knowing and attaining one's goals. The eight goals attributed to Lakshmi are: spiritual enlightenment, knowledge, abundance, progeny, resources, food, patience and success. Lakshmi is also worshiped by the Jains and Buddhists as a Goddess of abundance and prosperity. Lakshmi sits on a lotus flower and holds two lotus blossoms which symbolizes self-knowledge and spiritual enlightenment. The gold coins that pour from her hands symbolize wealth and abundance.

I was lucky to once visit India during Diwali - Lakshmi's festival. Everywhere there were little lanterns flickering, firecrackers popping and rice-paste mandalas on every threshold. It is a time of great celebration.
